What is the Flagship Universities?

Every country has multiple universities. When you ask any question related to the universities, some universities like the University of California, University of Florida, University of Georgia, and many others appear consistently. These Universities regularly appear because of their popularity. Therefore they are the most essential and prominent universities of their specific states; that is why they are known as Flagship Universities.

Flagship Universities are often public universities. These universities generally receive funding support from the government. People tend to search more for these institutions. Nate Johnson says, “It all should be called tuition, but some play a little shell game when they don’t want to advertise tuition increases. So they increase a fee over here, and you end up with something complicated like that. Others include it all as one straight fee”.

In-State versus Out-State Students

Every year billions of students, especially in the United States, move out of the state to study at Flagship Universities. It has given rise to the concept of in-state and out-state students. The term out-states means that the student belongs to some other state and resides in a particular state to study. While the term in-state implies that the student belongs to the same state in which he/she studies.

The decision to move out of your native state can be a turning point in your career. However, it depends on various factors like tuition fees, rules, and regulations. Thus if you are willing to invest in shaping your career, then moving out of your state could be a good option for you.

Although even if you move out of the state, you will remain in the same country. However, there are some variations from state to state that you might face. You might face slight changes in the rules and regulations, and also variation in tuition fees structure of the flagship universities. A basic comparison between in-state and out-state students can help you understand this concept better.

·     Difference in Rules

Any in-state student can provide residential proof to certify that he is staying in that state for over a period. While the out-state student has to give an H1 visa for that state in which he is studying.

·     Difference in Examination

Additionally, the out-state student has to appear for a particular examination to seek admission in Flagship Universities. However, there is no such rule for in-state students. They need to qualify for the minimum score.

·     Difference in Tuition Fees

The fee structure is different for in-state students as compared to the out-state student. The tuition fee for an in-state student is comparatively lower than out-state students. In simple words, the tuition fees for the out-state student are almost double the amount.

·     Difference in Scholarships

The in-state students are eligible for various scholarships offered by Flagship University. Whereas out-state students cannot avail of this benefit of scholarship.

Since money is the most crucial factor in the field of education, thus both in-state and out-state students should know the different policies and fees.
